Cambridge MA – Station 1 Temporary Replacement
EMB Partnered with Ted Galante Architectural Studios to develop a temporary home for the Cambridge Massachusetts Fire Department's Station # 1 apparatus while the original 90-year-old station was redesigned and updated.

The Calgary Fire Department required an economical solution that would:
- Provide rapid response fire protection services in outlying and new communities where it was not economically feasible to build a permanent site built station.
- Maintain the same in areas where outdated stations are out of commission while they are updated or rebuilt.
- Provide true and ready portability for multiple relocations without loss of functionality or structural integrity.
These requirements are similar for most of the fire departments we speak to across the US and Canada.
CFD did extensive research and sampled multiple other options from modified residential buildings to less substantial / fabric structures. They found none were suitable for the heavy duty demands of an active fire department. With the success of this installation the city has reserved an option to acquire several more EXTREME Fire Stations.
This project is a single apparatus bay station with living quarters for 4 full time fire fighters. Design and production time was +/- 6 months and installation will require less than a week.
